Forklifts moving in DC or warehouse environmentIntermec is now shipping a new safety accessory that reduces driver distraction by automatically blacking out the computer display when the fork-lift or vehicle is in motion when using the Intermec CV41 Vehicle Computer or the Intermec CV61 Vehicle Computer. Many enterprise warehouses have mandated the use of screen-blanking solutions across their forklift fleet, as standards organizations like OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) have classified forklift operation as a hazardous occupation.

The screen blanking box accessory is a powered relay switch that is wired between an external motion sensing input and the RS232 serial port on a vehicle computer. The accessory does not contain any internal motion-sensing capability. Wiring to the vehicle is typically a custom cable designed and provided by a professional forklift installer and the motion sensing is triggered from the vehicle transmission. A standard RS232 serial cable is also required to connect the accessory to the Intermec CV41 or Intermec CV61 vehicle computer serial port. No cabling is provided with the Intermec kit.

After the accessory has been connected, administrators can enable or disable the feature using Intermec Control Panel applications that come pre-installed on the vehicle computer.
